Today, I tested this golf club.

The shaft is a Dynamic Gold.

Loft: 58°, Club length: 35 inches, Shaft flex: S200, Shaft weight: 115g, Kick point: High (butt-end), Torque: 1.2, Overall club weight: 478g.

It’s been a while since I last tested a Cleveland wedge.

It’s reassuring to see that the core design hasn’t changed much since the previous model. Many clubs lose their shape when manufacturers chase overly radical designs, but Cleveland has kept it true to form.

There are times I’ve thought, “The older version was better,” but not here. Cleveland seems to understand what makes their wedges work.

It’s a standard-sized head with nothing unusual at first glance.

The word “FULL-FACE” is printed on the toe, which made me curious.

Normally, “full-face” makes me think of a helmet — so why is it here on a golf club? I was eager to find out.

The topline looked slightly rounded, so I checked from another angle and found this shape.

It’s a common Cleveland wedge design feature.

Not as extreme as brands like Fourteen, but possibly a way to slightly thicken the topline to raise the center of gravity. While drilling weight ports in the sole might raise CG more effectively, there’s probably a deliberate reason Cleveland chose this route.

It’s a traditional flat-faced wedge without visible gimmicks.

While Cleveland also makes cavity-back wedges, their lineup is dominated by these simpler flat-face designs.

I personally don’t look for cavity construction in a wedge, though I understand its benefits for some players.

The topline thickness is standard, slightly thicker toward the toe.

Other brands do this too — likely to add toe-side weight. Personally, I’d add lead tape toward the heel to shorten the center of gravity and quicken head response.

One challenge in golf is that the impact point is never aligned with the shaft’s central axis — unlike baseball — which makes the game more difficult but also allows for greater distance potential.

The sole width is standard, but it’s clear the entire sole has generous camber.

Today’s market offers many sole variations — split soles, heavily relieved heels, etc. — but few have this much continuous curvature.

I picture sole camber in terms of “sliding speed” through turf, and this wedge looks like it will glide quickly through grass with minimal resistance.

Though Cleveland is now owned by Dunlop — known for its split-sole designs — this wedge isn’t one of them.

The rounded sole should slide well from any contact point. While shanks are feared in approaches, the “chunk” is equally dreaded. I’ve learned that opening the face and using the sole can greatly reduce these mistakes.

In short, in the short game, the sole matters even more than the face — touch comes from the sole.

From that perspective, this wedge looks highly playable on course. The bounce feels “moderately low.”

The moderate hosel length is appealing.

Many brands have been shortening hosels slightly, but Cleveland keeps this length. That, along with their excellent “set-down” at address, is why I’ve gamed Cleveland wedges more than any other brand.

If the head were any larger, it would probably feel even more awkward. The overall profile is nicely streamlined and inspires a “fade” image, but the toe section at the back bulges a bit too much for my taste.

Although Cleveland could now be considered a “Japanese brand” under its ownership, this head shape feels distinctly “Western” — bold and less refined.

Still, the club sits beautifully at address — one of Cleveland’s strengths. Many wedges have a good-looking face but poor sit; this one nails both, helping the target image form instantly.

Not just for bunkers, but for most greenside shots, I open the face to varying degrees.
This wedge allows for infinite, “stepless” adjustment — unlike others that open in set increments.

Impact feel is soft and excellent.

Exactly as I expected — the forged feel, with that “ball sticking to the face” sensation, is addictive.
With a wedge, this adhesion at impact helps control distance far better than a hard, springy face.

It picks the ball up easily and produces good height.

The leading edge protrudes just enough to help on tight or poor lies — a real lifesaver in tricky conditions.
Players who prefer a goose-necked wedge might find it less appealing.

Despite my initial discomfort at address, my distance control was spot-on.

With wedges, it’s not about speed but about reducing speed — producing a “slow-motion” shot.
This club excels at killing ball speed and delivering consistent tempo, making it a dependable partner for players who want to control roll precisely.

While the unique look stood out, everything else left a very positive impression.

Players who like full-face grooves will likely love this design.

Since I often open the face and strike toward the toe, I’ve sometimes struggled with reduced spin and extra rollout.

This wedge solves that problem.

When you want the ball to stop, it will.
I’d like to see both conforming and non-conforming models, pushing innovation within and beyond the rules.

Although I enjoyed testing it, I wouldn’t buy it — purely because of the look.

For me, wedges should be visually beautiful, as they’re the most-handled club in the bag.
This one’s performance is excellent, but its face design didn’t appeal to me aesthetically.

A wedge should be something you enjoy looking at as much as hitting.

In approaches, where precision is vital, appearance is a key factor for confidence.
