The other day, I had the pleasure of testing this golf wedge at both an approach practice area and a bunker practice range.

The test club was the JP Golf Japan BLACK SCRAPED ORANGE LOGO MID BOUNCE.

It was paired with a DYNAMIC GOLD 120 S200 shaft, featuring a 58° loft, 35-inch length, S200 flex, D2.5 swing weight, low kick point, and a total weight of 459g.

Wedges like this truly shine under natural sunlight more than in covered practice bays. Just looking at it brightens my mood.

I’ve tested this wedge before, but once again, I found myself captivated. For those who have owned a cat, you might recognize the “Flehmen response”—that was pretty much me today. The aesthetics alone had me at peak excitement.

The sole pattern is beautifully detailed. Since I tested it not on a mat, but on turf, bare ground, and in bunkers, I felt a strong urge to keep that sole pristine.

The rounded sole, including both the leading and trailing edges, eliminates any concerns of the club catching in turf. The bounce is standard, which I personally like, though some players might prefer more aggressive bounce for added assurance.

The finely milled face is not just functional—it’s visually stunning.

The address position is nothing short of perfection—textbook classic. The shaft’s entry angle is beautifully natural, unlike some wedges where it’s skewed left or right, throwing off your setup. This one is perfectly balanced, allowing you to trust your loft and focus on your shot. Even my trusty partner, the Titleist PRO V1x, seemed pleased.

The face opens easily, which is essential for me, as I often play open-faced wedge shots. This feature alone gives me great confidence at address and puts me in a relaxed, focused mindset.

Let the testing begin!

The feel is phenomenal. I’ve tested this wedge before, and I’m still impressed. Unlike drivers, wedges aren’t about distance or speed. You want a slower ball, not a fast one—and a softer, grippier feel that enhances control. In this regard, this wedge excels.

The spin performance is exceptional. It’s not an “ultra-spin” wedge that stops the ball violently, but rather delivers a controllable,

intuitive spin—one that lands and behaves just as you envisioned. That’s critical for scoring.

With easy alignment, great feel, and soft launch, it’s nearly impossible to misjudge distance. Personally, I gauge distance using trajectory and speed, and this wedge felt like a trusted companion I’ve used for years. Watching golf legends using worn wedges reminded me of this exact feeling—a club you never want to part with.

Workability is another strong point. It allows for creativity—something essential in wedge play. Beyond textbook techniques, experimenting and tailoring your own style is key to mastery, and this wedge enables exactly that. You can fine-tune your face angle by millimeters and find your sweet spot effortlessly.

I also tested it not only on grass and rough but in bunkers.

It performed beautifully. I prefer shallow explosions where possible, lightly slicing the sand rather than blasting it. Excessive bounce tends to deflect too much sand, which disrupts consistency. This wedge, with its moderate bounce, was ideal—it matched my intent. For tougher lies, simply open the face to increase loft and bounce.

Post-Testing Impressions

Once again, I was reminded of how outstanding this wedge is. Practicing approach shots and bunker play with it is nothing short of fun. It delivers a luxurious experience.
Its drawbacks? It’s quite rare and very expensive—making it difficult to come by or justify for many. But for those who get the chance, I highly recommend trying it.
