GOLFCLUB TEST DIARY
Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron
Today, I had the chance to test this golf club.
The test club is the Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron, 7-iron model.
Dynamic Gold
The shaft is the Dynamic Gold.
The loft is 32 degrees, club length is 36.75 inches, shaft flex is S200, kick point is high, and the total club weight is 422 grams.
Front view
This is Fujimoto Gikoh’s beautiful new iron.
While it has a glossy finish, it’s not overly shiny, which I found appealing.
It exudes a unique texture that feels comforting and calming.
Believer
When I hear “Believer,” I can’t help but think of the Monkees’ hit song, “Daydream Believer.”
Does the name mean “someone who believes”?
Side view
The shape is sharp, but the edges aren’t harsh—it has a rounded and approachable vibe.
It feels more like a comfortable sedan than a hardcore sports car.
Cavity depth
The cavity depth is substantial, offering a traditional full cavity design.
Thickened hitting area
The hitting area at the back is thickened.
This design likely enhances the feel at impact.
Sole width
The sole is distinctly wide.
Neck length
The neck is relatively short, giving it a somewhat low center of gravity design.
Many modern irons feature necks of this length.
When the neck is too short, I sometimes find it intimidating, but this length is just right for me—no issues at all.
FUJIMOTO GIKOH
The hosel features the engraving “FUJIMOTO GIKOH.”
Fans of Fujimoto Gikoh will surely find this detail irresistible.
While I haven’t had much experience with Fujimoto Gikoh clubs, they are undoubtedly a manufacturer with a strong presence.
No milling
I checked to see if the face had any milling, but it did not.
The face is a standard, clean design.
Swing feel
Taking practice swings, the club felt great.
Its moderate weight improved my rhythm.
The reliable shaft and the head’s comforting atmosphere worked harmoniously.
Once again, I was reminded how crucial the harmony between the head and shaft is in a club.
Address feel
At address, the semi-large appearance gave me a sense of confidence.
It doesn’t appear overly compact and has a balanced, slightly rounded shape.
There’s a slight offset, but not enough to cause discomfort.
This design made it easy to align with my target.
No thoughts of mishits crossed my mind—I felt calm and focused.
Starting the test:
Face view
I was captivated by the club’s exceptional feel at impact.
It’s a highly satisfying sensation.
The moderate softness and tactile feedback left me impressed.
The thickened back of the hitting area might contribute to this great feel.
This is the kind of feel that makes forged irons so attractive—it turns practice into pure enjoyment, which can naturally speed up your improvement.
Sound
The sound was also fantastic.
For an iron enthusiast like me, the sound was incredibly satisfying.
A crisp “ping-ping” echoed clearly, resonating not just in my ears but also deep in my mind.
This is an iron that you can enjoy with your ears as much as your hands.
While many modern irons have become more stylish and offer better feedback compared to the past, it’s rare to find one with such captivating sound.
This sound alone enhances the club’s presence and desirability.
Feel is something only the player can experience, but sound is something others around you can also perceive.
Hearing this sound makes it easy for others to gauge the quality of the shot.
Whether on the course or at the driving range, this is the kind of club that draws attention and makes people want to try it.
I have a habit of always listening with my left ear when I hit shots.
From drivers to putters, my left ear is my primary guide for sound.
This isn’t limited to actual shots—I do the same even during practice swings.
Today, my left ear felt particularly pleased, as if it was rejoicing.
That’s how captivating the sound of this iron is.
It made me want to keep hitting as long as time allowed.
Toe side
The ball launches easily.
There’s no sense of harshness or difficulty.
This is a very approachable iron.
While I personally like the attached shaft, the fact that this iron is sold as a component gives it an extra layer of appeal.
Mass-market irons from major manufacturers come pre-assembled with specific shafts, which may not always match your preferences.
In those cases, reshafting becomes necessary.
However, with this iron, you can start with your favorite shaft, which is a significant advantage.
By getting a proper fitting and assembling the iron to your liking, you can enjoy it for years to come.
Since there’s no need for post-purchase reshafting, it also offers cost benefits.
Back face
In terms of stability, it showcases the high performance typical of cavity-back irons.
It’s a very stylish-looking iron, but it doesn’t feel intimidating at all.
Instead, it has an inviting and forgiving nature.
It’s highly tolerant of slight mis-hits, offering a wide margin for error.
It’s easy to shape shots and achieve precise lines, combining both forgiveness and elegance.
Distance performance
In terms of distance performance, this iron aligns with the standards of modern irons, offering excellent distance capabilities.
While I wouldn’t call it a “distance monster,” it delivers consistent, reliable yardage.
From my experience, it feels like it adds about one extra club length compared to traditional irons, which is becoming the norm for modern irons.
For those who prefer a slight adjustment, such as increasing the loft, this forged iron is highly accommodating.
This iron strikes a great balance for golfers who value both control and sufficient distance.
While this test club was equipped with the Dynamic Gold shaft, I suspect that pairing it with a different shaft could further enhance its distance potential.
Workability
The workability of this iron was also impressive.
It wasn’t difficult to curve the ball left or right, and the club responded predictably.
This iron strikes a balance between precision and forgiveness, offering a certain amount of “play” in its handling.
It’s not overly sensitive to small inputs, allowing for comfortable control within a manageable range.
This forgiving yet responsive nature reinforces my earlier comparison to a “sedan-type” iron.
Heel side
This iron was an absolute joy to use.
Each shot brought a smile to my face.
Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron
As I mentioned earlier, this is the kind of iron that makes you want to hit as many balls as possible.
At first glance, the back face design might make the hitting area appear small, but in reality, it’s very generous.
Above all, it’s remarkably forgiving, making it easy to hit the sweet spot consistently.
Undoubtedly, the high-performance shaft contributes to this stability.
The club doesn’t twist, and I found this reassuring.
Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron
I feel this iron has the kindness and supportiveness to help golfers improve.
Muscle-back irons are great, but they can feel intimidating due to their higher skill requirements.
While they’re stylish, some players might find them too demanding and unapproachable.
In contrast, this iron feels like a gentle parent, quietly encouraging and supporting you from a distance.
The word “parent” reminds me of the phrase, “standing above the tree to watch over the child.” This iron embodies that same parental warmth.
Golf clubs are essential partners for golfers, but this iron felt like more than just a partner—it felt like a nurturing presence.
It guides you positively and never steers you in the wrong direction.
Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron
This is the kind of iron that you’ll never get tired of using.
Unlike drivers, irons tend to evolve at a slower pace and are less influenced by trends.
That’s why qualities like “timelessness” and “trustworthiness” are so important.
The more you use a club, the more trust you place in it. This iron excels in that regard.
For golfers who enjoy frequently upgrading their equipment, this might not be the best fit.
However, for those who prefer to carefully select and cherish their clubs for years, this iron is highly recommended.
Fujimoto Gikoh Believer Iron
Every year, I’m fortunate to encounter some remarkable irons, and I deeply appreciate that.
Among them, this iron stands out as one of the very best—it’s worthy of the term “exquisite.”
I would even describe it as “the top of the top.”
For golfers who prefer well-known brands, this iron might not immediately appeal to them.
However, for those who value Japanese craftsmanship and trust a manufacturer with a solid reputation, this iron will be incredibly attractive.
Earlier this year, I tested the “
Adject” iron, another model from Fujimoto Gikoh, but I found myself favoring the Believer.
This is the kind of iron you’d want to have a meaningful “conversation” with as you practice.
It’s an exceptional and rare iron that you may only encounter a few times in your lifetime.
My desire to purchase it was strongly stimulated.

※ After trying it out, I did some research on this club.
