Test Review: FOURTEEN TB-7 FORGED Irons

Today, I tested the new FOURTEEN TB-7 FORGED irons on the course.
The club I used for testing was the FOURTEEN TB-7 FORGED 7-iron.

The shaft installed was the FS-90i. Specs: 30° loft, 37.25 inches in length, and an S-flex shaft.

This iron carries the classic sleek styling FOURTEEN is known for.
It’s easy to see that this club is the sister model to the TB-5 FORGED. The design is virtually identical.
The TB-7 appears slightly more compact, but it’s something you’d have to compare directly to notice.

Although it’s a cavity-back, the design is quite different from typical cavities.
FOURTEEN irons are known for their one-piece forged construction rather than multi-material designs with tungsten inserts—and this model follows that philosophy.

The cavity is deeply milled.
Where most cavity backs are recessed horizontally, the TB-7 features a vertical depth profile.
In my experience, vertical millings have a bigger influence on ball flight than horizontal ones.
From this angle, it looks like the center of gravity is quite low toward the sole.

The top line is of average thickness—neither too thin nor chunky.

The hosel is also standard in length and offers a straight neck profile at address.

The sole is slightly narrow compared to today’s wider sole trend.
While traditional irons would consider this standard, it stands out as slim among modern game-improvement models.
This might be part of a trend swinging back toward narrower soles—which I personally prefer. Wide soles can feel clunky, but this one doesn’t.

The sole has a subtle roundness. The leading edge is modestly beveled, while the trailing edge is more aggressively ground.

The clubface is simple—no face milling, just a clean finish.
Some irons without milling look cheap or unfinished, even when brand new. But that’s not the case here.
FOURTEEN’s finish work is excellent. Clean, elegant, and professional.

The familiar FOURTEEN-original grip is instantly recognizable—even without branding.
It’s soft and suits iron play very well.

The club has a slightly lightweight feel but remains stable—never flimsy.
Personally, I prefer a slightly heavier iron that drops naturally from the top. But preferences vary.

Addressing the ball feels fantastic.
I actually prefer this head over the TB-5 I tested previously. The TB-5 had a large face, while this one feels compact and sharp—like a handsome, chiseled face with well-defined features.
It’s well-balanced, confident, and elevates your mindset before the shot. The soft-looking head finish adds to its appeal.
The leading edge, top line, and even the 13 scorelines on the 7-iron all work harmoniously.
With many irons, you often address the ball and think, “Well, this is fine…” But not here. I was genuinely excited to swing it.
Among FOURTEEN’s many good-looking irons, the TB-7 might rank in the top three—though I can’t immediately name the other two.
First Impressions After Hitting
The feel is excellent.
Soft, with a sense of “holding the ball” at impact.
It’s not the most luxurious feel I’ve ever experienced, but it certainly scores above average.

Ball flight is typical of a cavity-back—not particularly high-launching.
However, the one-piece forged feel is natural and very pleasing.
Unlike hollow-body irons or internal weighting designs, where visual cues often don’t match actual performance, this club feels honest and balanced.
I’ve always viewed internal weighting as a last resort. Forged one-piece heads let you truly appreciate the material and craftsmanship.
And yes, poorly positioned weights can disrupt CG or shift the sweet spot—often toward the toe. That wasn’t the case here. Impact felt centered and consistent.

Stability was excellent—on par with traditional cavity backs.
Despite its sharp looks, it doesn’t play tough or feel intimidating. Quite the opposite—it’s welcoming.

Distance performance is solid—perhaps slightly above average for a modern forged iron.
It’s not built solely for distance, but if you’re looking for a balance between carry and control, this will suit you.
It delivers enough carry without being too hot.

Workability is also impressive, allowing precise control in both directions.
It doesn’t have the ultra-sharp responsiveness of a muscle back, but it blends forgiveness with a compact head shape beautifully.
If you don’t rely on offset to square the face but instead want a slightly open-looking head that naturally helps you square it through feel, this club is for you.
Final Thoughts After Testing
FOURTEEN clubs have always stood out for their balance—and not just in weight, but in total harmony.

That includes distance, launch, stability, workability, swing feel, and head balance.

But what left the biggest impression was the sheer beauty of the head.
It’s almost too handsome to be a FOURTEEN! But the sharp, confident look and the ease of shaping shots made it a joy to play.

Easy to aim, soft at impact, and highly responsive. A pleasure to hit.
It looks like a muscle back at address, but plays like a forgiving cavity—an enjoyable and effective contrast.

If you prefer oversized heads, heavy offset, or ultra-low CG with wide soles, this might not be for you.
Despite being a modern club, the TB-7 isn’t high-tech. It’s basic—in the best way. That’s what makes it timeless and rewarding to play.
Many FOURTEEN fans I know keep using their irons for years, and this might be one reason why.

I’ve always liked FOURTEEN irons—but now I like them even more.

Reason: Enhanced Feel and Performance
The Theater Blade structure works by redistributing weight within the head, creating a deeper cavity that improves both feel and forgiveness. Unlike traditional blades that can feel harsh on off-center hits, the TB-7’s design provides a more consistent and pleasant impact sensation across the face.
Example: Real-World Performance
They are one of the most unique blade irons with their minimal offset, compact size, workability, yet long and forgiving, making them accessible to a broader range of skilled golfers who previously couldn’t play traditional blades effectively.
Point: The theater blade structure also allows for strategic weight distribution, with the TB-7’s smaller head size compared to the TB-5 enabling engineers to add thickness to the theater blade area, resulting in superior feel and performance.
